1. Why should I choose Bulgaria?
Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe with the first official state established in 681. Its has tombs and treasures from an Ancient Thracian civilization and is the country who created the Cyrillic alphabet. Bulgaria offers an astonishing array of landscapes, flora, fauna, recreational activities and wildlife. 2. Are credit and debit cards widely used?
No. You would not have a problem paying by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, Access and Airplus) in hotels and big shops, however in small restaurants and shops it is advisable to have cash in hand. ATMs are widely spread.
3. How is the climate?
The country benefits from a temperate continental climate with four seasons. A mild Mediterranean influence is felt in the more southerly regions and the Black Sea coast with average summer temperatures of 25C+ and an average of 1700 sunshine hours from May to October. Winters are cold and last for 4-5 months, with snowfalls from early December till late April. This weather makes Bulgaria a perfect summer destination and excellent for skiing and snowboarding in winter.
4. Is the address registration necessary for the foreigners that visit Bulgaria?
Foreigners visiting Bulgaria must register their address with local authorities within 24 hours of arrival, unless staying at a hotel where registration is done automatically. If you intend to remain in Bulgaria longer than three months, you must apply for a visa.
5. Can I use Traveller’s cheques in Bulgaria?
Yes. Traveller’s cheques can be cashed at banks for a commission.
6. What languages are spoken in Bulgaria?
The official language is Bulgarian and uses the Cyrillic alphabet. To facilitate tourists, road and direction signs in populated areas, resorts, railway stations, airports and along the main motorways are also spelled with Latin letters. English, German, French, and Russian are widely spoken.
